Getting Started

Where can I find Technorati Media's Terms & Conditions?

You can review our complete Terms & Conditions here before signing up.
[top]

What is required of me to sign up?

All you need is a blog on which you can place simple HTML code. We never ask you for money. Anyone can sign up for Technorati Media as long as you operate a legal blog. Once you sign up and Technorati Media approves your blog, you’re set to go. Click here to sign up now.

[top]

How do I know what to charge?

You decide how much you want to charge per week. The less you charge, the more likely you are to sell advertising space. Generally, $10-$200 per week is the going rate depending on how many unique visitors your blog has and how many of them click ads.

We encourage you to start lower and gradually raise the Cost per Week each week as your blog builds an advertiser following.

[top]

Can I set guidelines for who can advertise on my blog?

Absolutely. Once you log in, you can specify your requirements and restrictions by scrolling to the My Account tab and selecting "Edit My Sites." On this page, you can choose which categories to restrict by checking each of the boxes. Ads in these categories will be blocked from your blog.

These restrictions will appear on the page a customer visits when he/she goes to buy a Weekly Ad on your blog.

[top]

Do I get to approve (or deny) the ads on my blog?

Ads will not start for 48 hours giving you a chance to review any new purchases. You will be sent an email each time an ad is purchased with links to either approve or deny the advertisement

[top]

How do I get started?

It's easy to sign up and there is no set up charge. Just follow the step by step instructions and you can be up and running in a matter of minutes.

Click here to sign up now.
[top]

What kind of statistics do you offer?

All of your customers will be able to view real-time statistics, and you will be able to view stats on all of your customers' ads. We break it down by day and number of clicks. As we charge a flat rate by the week, the number of clicks generated is the important number that advertisers care about.
[top]

What do you do with unsold space?

If there is a situation where you have "unsold space," meaning there aren't enough paid advertisements to fill your ad box, Targeted CPC (RON) ads will appear.

Targeted Cost Per Click (RON) Ads

What are Targeted CPC (RON) ads?

Targeted CPC (RON) ads are run of network ads that are served only to online visitors within a specific geographic region and/or site category.
[top]

How does it work?

Targeted CPC (RON) ads only circulate to the region(s) and categories specified by the advertiser. For example, if the advertiser limits the Targeted CPC (RON) ad to only “Business and Finance” blogs in the U.S. and Canada, the ad will only be seen by visitors from those regions on blogs within that category.
[top]

How much am I paid for Targeted Cost per Click (RON) Ads?

You are paid per click for Targeted Cost per Click ads on your blog. The amount you earn for each click depends on where the click occurred.

For example, we are able to pay a higher CPC for a U.S. click than we are for a click that comes from Vietnam as there is greater demand for U.S. traffic on our network.

However, you are paid for every good click, even if it is just a penny or two for countries typically considered as invalid.

Sales and Earnings

What is the difference between sales and earnings reports?

The Sales report shows ad sales based on the date the ad was purchased. This helps you see exactly when an ad was bought, even if it is scheduled to be displayed on a later date.

The Earnings report shows earnings based on when the ad was displayed on your blog. The Earnings report reflects how much money you have made on a certain day. This is the report you should run to determine how much you can expect to get paid in your next payment, not the Ad Sales report.

Can you give me an example?

If someone purchases a 3-week ad on January 1st, and the cost of the ad $70 per week, the Sales report will reflect a $210 sale on January 1st.

The Earnings report will show how much you've made for each day the ad has been displayed on your blog. So, if you are running an Earnings report for January 1 through January 7, you will see that you have earned $10 for each day that the ad has been displayed on your blog ($70 per week divided by 7 days in a week) for a total of $70 in earnings for that week. The earnings for the second and third weeks in January will be reflected on the Earnings report in a similar manner.

[top]

How can I determine what I will be paid in my next payment?

To determine what you will be paid for last month run the Earnings Report and select "Last Month." The total is at the top of the page and this is the amount that will be paid on or around the 30th of the month.

[top]

Why is this feature important?

This feature not only helps our publishers track when sales are made, and how their earnings are divided over time, but also helps ensure that our advertisers only pay for days his or her ad is actually shown.
[top]

What are projected future earnings?

Projected Future Earnings are the earnings that a publisher will receive from displaying Weekly Ads that have been sold but not yet displayed.

Projected Future Earnings do not include the value of the any Targeted CPC (RON) ads that may be displayed in the future.
[top]

How do I estimate how much I will earn this month?

To estimate how much you will earn in the present month run the Earnings Report and select "Month to Date". The report will show the earnings to date at the top of the page and at the bottom a summary of the weekly ads sold but not yet displayed by month.

The report does not estimate the Targeted CPC (RON) earnings for the rest of the month, but by looking at the historic data a forecast can be made.

An estimate of the month's earnings can be made by adding the "earnings to date," the estimate of weekly ad earnings for the "rest of the current month" and an estimate of the Targeted CPC (RON) for the rest of the month.

Site Directory

Why does my blog not appear in the directory?

Every blog that is submitted to Technorati Media is reviewed by the company and is only included in the directory if it passes certain quality criteria. We normally review every blog within 48 hours of receiving the application and always contact the publisher with the result of our review process.

[top]

If my blog is down will it still be shown in the Site Directory?

No, it will not show in the Site Directory. The only blogs that appear in the Site Directory are those that are showing Technorati Media ads.
[top]

How does Technorati Media decide how many stars to award a blog?

In general, we award the top few percent of blogs with five stars; more blogs have four stars and so on. A blog is awarded no stars if it fails to meet certain basic criteria, e.g. if the blog does not have an Alexa Rank.

[top]

How is the average Clicks/Ad/Week calculated if a blog has more active Weekly Ads in rotation than average ads per block?

This figure is calculated by dividing the average total clicks per week by the number of active weekly ads in rotation.

[top]

How does Technorati Engage order the sites in the directory?

By default, we rank blogs by the number of clicks that an average ad has received on that blog. However, it is very easy to reorder the Site Directory.
[top]

How do I reorder the Site Directory?

By clicking on the links titled "Cost/Week," "Avg. Clicks/Week/Ad," "Repurchase Rate," "Avg. CPC," or "Alexa Ranking" at the top of the column, the Site Directory is ordered by that particular metric.
[top]

What factors are given stars?

Technorati Engage awards stars for four criteria. The four criteria are (1) Average Clicks per Week per Ad, (2) Repurchase Rate, (3) Average Cost per Click (CPC) and (4) the Alexa Rank.

Payment

When will I receive my payment?

You will receive this month's earnings on the 30th day of the following month.

If the 30th of the month happens to fall on a weekend or holiday, you will be paid the next business day.

[top]

What is the best payment method for me?

Technorati Media offers payments through Technorati Media Account Credit, checks, PayPal, and wire transfer. The following is a guide that may help you decide which payment option is best for you:

Technorati Media Account Credit
If you choose this option, your earnings will be deposited into your Technorati Media Account Credit fund each month. You will be able to use these credits to purchase ads and drive traffic to your blog(s). This payment method is optimal for publishers who advertise or are looking to advertise with Technorati Media as well as publish. Technorati Media Account Credit is also advantageous in that there is no delay or fee in issuing your payment. The minimum payment for Technorati Media Account Credit is $50.00.

Check
If you have a US dollar bank account then a check is normally the best way to receive your payment. We mail the checks on or around the 30th day of the month and within the US they are normally received within 3 business days. Outside the US, checks may take as long as 4 weeks to be delivered. The fees associated with cashing a dollar check can be high if you do not have a US dollar bank account. In addition, the exchange rate offered by a check cashing company may be poor. Technorati Media charges no fees for sending a check and the minimum payment is $50.00.

PayPal
PayPal is an easy way to quickly receive your earnings. PayPal offers accounts in US dollars, Canadian dollars, British pounds, Euros, Yen, and Australian dollars. Technorati Media passes on the PayPal charge for sending money, these charges are 2% per payment up to a maximum of $1.00 per payment. The exact amount varies depending on currency and location. See the PayPal website for more information. Technorati Media sends the payment in US dollars and if the account is in another currency then an exchange rate cost may also exist. PayPal does not allow customers in certain countries to receive payments. The minimum payment for PayPal is $50.00.

Wire transfers
Wire transfers can be made to bank accounts all over the world. Technorati Media charges $40 for all wire transfers. Publishers should also note that the receiving bank will often charge a fee and if the money needs to be converted to another currency, the exchange rate used may be below the market. For more information about the cost of receiving a wire transfer, contact your bank. The minimum payment for a wire transfer is $3000.00.

Publisher Charts

Where can I find my Publisher Charts?

A link to your charts can be found from a few different locations. In the top navigation bar there is a drop down under “My Account” for “Publisher.” Here you will find a submenu with “Charts and Graphs.” Alternatively, there is a basic chart shown on your summary page with a link underneath for “More Charts.” You can also find this link in your Quick Links section on the same page.
[top]

What are Publisher Charts?

Publisher charts allow you to visually monitor your blog’s earnings performance with a variety of visual options. Your statistics can be plotted as bar, area, line, or curved line charts, each with different color references for easy to read data. Publishers can monitor individual blog performances and track these statistics grouped as days, weeks, or months over any date range.

[top]

What kind of data can be shown?

We allow you to track 6 different data sets at this time: Earnings, Effective CPM, Impressions, Clicks, CTR, and Effective CPC. Each of these metrics allows you to better understand the performance of your blog over time.

[top]

How many blogs can I chart at once?

Currently, you can chart one blog at a time.

[top]

What is the most effective way to chart my data?

The type of chart you use is really a matter of personal preference. However, some charts are better suited to showing different data than other charts. For instance, line charts are great for displaying a blog’s performance over time and visually convey a trend upward or downward while Bar charts are much more effective at comparing datasets side by side. We recommend that you play with the chart settings to find the right visual layout that works best for your needs.
